The “Lucifer” star will play Christopher Wilde in the upcoming limited series. He is a steam-punk inventor who has created an impressive next-generation technology that he calls “machines” or “mechanicals.”.
Washington Black is a nine-episode adventure series based on Esi Edugyan’s novel of the same name. It follows the extraordinary 19th-century adventures of George Washington “Wash” Black, an 11-year-old boy on a Barbados sugar plantation who must flee after his life hangs in jeopardy with one death already happening and another that could happen at any moment. Brown will play Medwin Harris, who traveled around to help others from trauma as he was kicked out by his family when he was young into becoming mayor of Halifax but later found Wash and became close friends trying to help him find new life again with difficult responsibilities thrown at him along the way!
Ellis starred as Lucifer on the show “Lucifer,” and his character Titch was an eccentric, passionate steam-punk inventor whose youthful enthusiasm masked a vulnerability. A disturbing death at his family’s sugar plantation catapulted him on a remarkable journey across the sky with young George Washington Black at his side. He found himself thrust into the role of mentor and father figure to Wash – a role he was ill-prepared for because he is chasing after his father’s shadow to understand who he is and what it means for him.
Washington Black is a pirate ship stowaway who takes his time exploring uncharted territory and surviving the tundra, desert, ice – all as an engineer. He also meets many people on this adventure-all of them enigmatic characters with quirkiness. However, Wash quickly realizes that he alone is responsible for driving his hero’s journey; there will be no other engine than him!
Ellis joins the cast of a previously announced show that includes Ernest Kingsley Jr. as Washington Black, Eddie Karanja as Young Washington Black, Iola Evans as Tanna Goff, and Edward Bluemel playing William “Billy” McGee to appear alongside Brown, who plays Medwin Harris.
“Washington Black” is adapted by showrunner Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, who executive produces alongside Brown under his new company Indian Meadows Productions. Jennifer Johnson of “Toni Morrison’s Beloved” and The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, and DJ Goldberg are also a part of the project, which has been directed by Wanuri Kahiu (of Oscar-nominated short film “Sorcerers”) with Mo Marable as co-director. Esi Edugyan is also producing for this adaptation about slavery in America.
