Sad news for the fans of The Last of Us as HBO Max Chief Content officer Casey Bloys confirmed in a statement that “it’s not going to air in 2022.” further adding that “I imagine you will see it in ’23.” Bloys reiterated that the series is currently shooting in Canada, and the 2022 premiere wouldn’t be feasible.
We can see how things like pandemics can cause production delays. However, it was already clear that production would extend until this summer, and it was unlikely that HBO would handle post-production and marketing in the same year.
The officially released images indicate significant differences between the game and its TV adaptation. It is being said that the main events will occur in 2023 instead of 2033, perfectly overlapping the timeline of The Last of Us with the show’s expected release.
