Each chapter in Trier’s telling of Julie’s tale is an instance of how her decisions, for better or worse, shape who she becomes. Trier does this by making some of the most original and interesting movies of the year, which are also different without being annoying. But Ter gets to the anxiety of entering adulthood without a firm grasp on who you are or where you want your life to go. Trier uses “The Worst Person in the World” to show how beautiful and scary it can be to remake yourself and your life based on your choices and the people you love.

Fresh is one of the few modern movies that doesn’t follow the script at all. In her first movie as a director, Mimi Cave follows Nora as she goes through the challenges of online dating and then meets the handsome and charming Steve in a grocery store. What looks like the start of a romantic comedy, on the other hand, quickly goes downhill as Steve’s true colors show. Not only is he a guy who snagged a date in the fresh vegetable section, but he also trades in the most unmentionable of foods: human flesh. Stan’s performance as a cannibal who abducts women and keeps them alive as he harvests everything from their breasts to a limb is surprisingly entertaining. For those searching for the most unorthodox of date night movies, give Fresh a try, but leave the supper for after the performance.
Fruitvale Station:

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan rose to prominence with their Sundance hit Fruitvale Station before moving on to create Creed and Black Panther. The Weinstein Company messed up the distribution, and even though the picture received rave reviews, it never reached the audience it deserved. However, if you haven’t seen it yet, this is the best moment to do so on Netflix. Oscar Grant was a young guy who was shot and murdered by a BART police officer in Oakland in 2009. This film is based on his experience. Jordan, as Grant, is just another example of why he is one of the greatest performers of his age, while Coogler, as director, handles the material with deftness and intent. The level of emotion is really high.

The outstanding portrayal by Kristen Stewart as Diana, Princess of Wales. Stewart’s moving portrayal of a woman stuck in a loveless marriage and with chilly in-laws helps Spencer stand out among the many Princess Di adaptations. Every day that Diana spends in the dark, cold castle of Balmoral, she thinks more and more about the English queen Anne Boleyn, who was put to death. Spencer may take some liberties with the facts, but the story makes up for it with a tense atmosphere and riveting drama. Stewart may not be able to pull off a spot-on Lady Di portrayal, but she comes very close, and her sequences with Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris are reason enough to give this film a try.
Nightmare Alley:

The 1947 film adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham’s novel Nightmare Alley, directed by Edmund Goulding, softened the novel’s rougher elements. However, Guillermo del Toro’s version, which is a grim and even unsettling look at life in a traveling carnival, is nothing like that. Cooper does a great job as Stan Carlisle, a former circus performer who starts his own clairvoyant show. His greed, deceit, and lies threaten to bring down the circus and his career as a whole. Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley has an excellent ensemble cast and an ominous, dark shine. Nightmare Alley may be Del Toro’s most eerie work yet since it focuses on the monstrosities lurking inside regular people.
