The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase has significantly increased the franchise’s presence on both small and large screens. But Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, one of the most eagerly awaited future Marvel films, will bring back some iconic characters. Will Chris Pratt still play Star-Lord after Guardians 3? James Gunn has been hinting at the blockbuster’s stakes.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will finally be published in May 2023 after being postponed for years. Even though the release date was repeatedly delayed, writer-director James Gunn had already made up his mind about the story, including the fact that it would conclude the MCU trilogy he began in 2014. During the Marvel Studios Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which also showed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 first video, the director and a few cast members emphasised this. While everyone involved was primarily concerned with providing a satisfying conclusion for the beloved cosmic heroes, especially Star-Lord, there remain uncertainties regarding their futures in the MCU.
For the first time since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Chris Pratt discusses his upcoming MCU roles. See the complete quote from Pratt below:
“I don’t know. I hope so. If not, you can always just follow me on Instagram. There are no plans for that right now. I think anything is possible, anything is possible. There’s [the] multiverse thing. I’m not saying I am, but if a character gets killed… Actually, turns out there are, like, crazy wormholes to bring people back.”
It’s tough to predict who will pass away in the threequel compared to Avengers like Iron Man, Black Widow, and, perhaps, even Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame because not much is known about the contracts of many of the actors engaged in the movie and because they have worked as a group. There are in fact ways to bring Star-Lord back in the future if he is murdered in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This is the MCU Multiverse Saga, as Pratt suggests, and reintroducing him as a variant would appear to be the simplest method to avoid killing. If Marvel Studios wants to use the character in their future stories, flashbacks will be another option. Considering the success of the movie, a fake death is also a possibility.

The remarks made by Chris Pratt demonstrate how significantly Phase Four has already changed the greater shared universe. He was careful to avoid explicitly confirming or denying any details regarding what might be in Guardians 3, but he did acknowledge that in the modern MCU, everything is imaginable. Everything appears feasible for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future now that the multiverse is involved. Just consider what transpired in Doctor Strange 2. Furthermore, America Chavez is just starting out in the MCU, so it seems like she may be the key to unlocking the multiverse anytime the studio needs it. To be clear, though, he has no immediate intentions for Star-Lord following James Gunn’s eagerly anticipated sequel.
Although it’s unknown what will happen to the Guardians after Vol. 3, the MCU is providing fans with a tonne of content that features the eclectic group of cosmic heroes. They just made a brief appearance in the movie Thor: Love and Thunder, and in the coming months, we can look forward to the animated shorts featuring Baby Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special on Disney+. In that case, if/when we have to say farewell to any characters after Vol. 3, at least we had more time with them.
The current release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is May 5, 2023. Stay tuned!
